Generally, an astrological aspect is an interaction between two planets at a distinct angular distance from each other. There are major aspects and what are considered to be minor aspects.
Major Aspects
Conjunction- distance between the planets is 0 degrees- Orb 9 to 10, consideration may be harmonious and favorable or challenging in nature depending on the conjugated planets and the astrological or zodiac sign in the house. Conjunction signifies being in a union or an immediate connection.
Sextile- distance is 60 degrees- Orb 6, consideration is traditionally harmonious or favorable. Sextile signifies opportunity.
Square- distance is 90 degrees- Orb 8, consideration is of a challenging nature or aspect. Square signifies two divergent forces or challenges.
Trine- distance is 120 degrees- Orb 8, consideration is traditionally harmonious or favorable. Trine signifies calm or ease.
Opposition- distance is 180 degrees- Orb 10, consideration is of a challenging nature or aspect. Opposition signifies duality or tension that may display favorable results depending on additional factors and approaches.
Also, some may consider the following aspect; it is traditionally considered a minor aspect:
Quincunx or the Inconjunct- distance is 150 degrees- Orb 2 to 6, consideration is of a neutral nature or perhaps a challenge at times. Quincunx signifies a mismatch, unsuitable match, dissatisfaction, or frustration.
Minor Aspects
Minor aspects offer more detail to the general scope. Consideration of Orb degrees is minimal, usually only by 2 to 3, but this may depend on other factors.
Semi-sextile- distance between the planets is 30 degrees, consideration is of a neutral nature or aspect.
Semi-square/Octile- distance is 45 degrees, consideration is of a discordant nature or aspect.
Quintile- distance is 72 degrees, consideration is traditionally harmonious or favorable.
Biquintile- distance is 144 degrees, consideration is traditionally harmonious or favorable.
Sesquiquadrate/Sesquisquare/Trioctile- distance is 135 degrees, consideration is of a discordant nature or aspect.
