
According to some inclusive concepts of Ayurvedic knowledge, the following may be favorable or unfavorable for individuals with either Vata, Pitta or Kapha Dosha Predominance:
Vata Dosha Predominance Diet:
Intake of small food portions at regular intervals
Intake of naturally sweet, salty, sour foods
Intake of foods smooth in texture, such as pureed dishes or soups, bananas
Prepare foods generously with ghee and oils because Vata predominance is dry in nature
Intake of butter
Intake of warm milk at night with cardamom may be soothing
Intake of herbal tea
Vata Dosha Predominance Ideal Foods May Be:
Vegetables and Herbs
Asparagus, Beets, Carrots, Cucumbers, Green Beans, Radishes, Sweet Potatoes, Garlic
Fruits
Grapes, Lemons, Pineapples
Grains
Cooked Rice, Oats
Vata Dosha Predominance UNFAVORABLE Foods Are Likely To Be:
Raw Vegetables, Salads
Immature, Unripe Fruits
Bitter, pungent, astringent foods
Broccoli, Beans, some may not exasperate Vata if intake isn't excessive
Excessive salt, processed sugars, excess of over-processed foods, or what is called junk food
Chocolates, chilled beverages because Vata predominance is cold in nature and alcohol
Fasting is considered unfavorable for Vata predominance
Pitta Dosha Predominance Diet:
Sweet, bitter, astringent foods
Olive oil, coconut oil, sunflower oil
Intake of milk, butter and ghee is fine
Sweet fruits
Cucumber, coconut water, melon, or other cooling foods and beverages because Pitta predominance is warm in nature
Most substantial meal is lunch
Pitta Dosha Predominance Ideal Foods May Be:
Vegetables, Herbs and Spices
Cabbage, Cauliflower, Celery, Green Beans, Lettuce, Sprouts, Mint, Black Pepper, Coriander, Ginger, Fennel, Turmeric
Pitta Dosha Predominance UNFAVORABLE Foods Are Likely To Be:
Intake of sour fruits, apricots, berries, grapefruit in large quantities
Salty, sour, spicy foods
Egg yolk, honey, hot beverages
Almond oil, corn oil, sesame oil
Heat exposure especially after intake of the above unfavorable foods
Kapha Dosha Predominance Diet:
Intake of pungent, bitter flavored foods
Pungent spices, such as, chilli or ginger
Mustard seeds, Turmeric
An ideal beverage with meals, ginger tea
Warm water flavored with honey and lemon
Intake of honey to support balance of Kapha
Low non-fat milk
Barley, millet, oats
Kapha Dosha Predominance Ideal Foods May Be:
Vegetables
Artichoke, Beans, Broccoli, Spinach, Sprouts
Fruits
Apples, Dried Figs, Pears, Pomegranates, Plums
Oil
Walnut Oil and Corn Oil
Plant-Derived
Jaggery
Protein Source
Eggs
Kapha Dosha Predominance UNFAVORABLE Foods Are Likely To Be:
Intake of large quantities of dairy
Intake of large quantities of salt
Excessive sugar intake
Intake of large quantities of nuts and seeds
Large amounts of oils being ingested
Intake of cold, heavy foods because Kapha predominance is more prone to lethargic digestion
Eating at night or late-night eating, more specifically, in large quantities
Intake of egg yolk, pork and seafood
